misty mountain getaway Meredith Woolnough

Meredith Woolnough is an award winning visual artist from the coastal region of Newcastle, Australia. Best known for her nature inspired embroideries, Meredith’s work is held in public, private and corporate collections worldwide.

Meredith’s elegant embroidered traceries capture the beauty and fragility of nature in knotted embroidery threads. Through a delicate system of tiny stitches she creates intricate and complex openwork compositions that are then carefully pinned in shadowboxes like preserved specimens.

Meredith holds a degree in Fine arts (first class honours), from the University of New South Wales, a Masters of Teaching from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (with distinction) from the University of Newcastle.

misty mountain getaway Denise Griffiths

Denise lives on the NSW South Coast with the ocean at her back door and a wonderful view of a park with many trees and native birds from her studio window at the front. Her husband and I care for my 95 year old Mum here as well.

She has sewn most of her life from dolls clothes, her clothes, dancewear for a studio, wedding dresses for a bridal shop, back to dolls clothes, teddy bears and a late start to quilting as she always thought they were traditional.

After her first visit to a quilt show in Sydney, Denise discovered all these art quilts and that started her journey through quilting. Australian native flowers are what she loves to make most, with her own “3D Baglique” technique that gives quilts there extra depth and texture. They are Standalone flowers that can be repositioned until you are happy with the layout and decide on background after.

Denise really enjoy teaching this technique and encouraging students to break the rules and do it their way.

She has been fortunate enough to have her quilts exhibited in many parts of the world including USA, Japan and France and have won many prizes, been published in many magazines and done some projects for magazines.

misty mountain getaway Rachaeldaisy

Rachael has always been interested in colour and design from delving into various crafts as a child, working as a florist for 20 years and then discovering patchwork and quilting 10 years ago. Since then she has been passionate about all things quilt related. Her quilts have been honoured with many awards, including Best in Show/Best in NSW at the Sydney Quilt Show 2016 for my WhizzBang! quilt featuring the folded fabric blocks. She also received Best in Show in 2015 and then again in 2016 at the Australian Modern Quilt Show for other quilts. Many of her quilts have been published in magazines and books both nationally and internationally. Words often used to describe her style are whimsical, creative and happy. Whilst honouring the tradition of quilting Rachael likes to find fresh ways and try new techniques to interpret conventional designs. She uses a lot of 3D elements in her work such as yoyos, prairie points, wool felt, appliquéd denim, doilies and trims.

misty mountain getaway Margaret Olive

Margaret took up Patchwork in 2000 and then purchased Patchwork Paradise in 2006 and love the joy a customer gets in selecting their fabrics for their next project. She has been teaching all various styles of classes in my shop.

Margaret started sewing Quiltworx patterns in 2012 when Judy Niemeyer came to Australia to teach Glacier Star to Shop Owner. Then she did Mariners Compass in 2013 with an Instructor and Judy via Skype and now Paradise in Blooms with Judy as an Instructor. Since becoming a Certified Shop she has taught countless classes in Cactus Flower Table Runner, Forever Yours Table Runner, Bali Bed Runner & Quilt, Chevron Landscape Table Runner, Glacier Star Quilt and Charm Elements in both the shop and groups from out of town. Margaret holds a Quiltworx day twice a month, a Tuesday and a Sunday.

She has taken to these patterns and love their simplicity and accuracy. It is such a pleasure seeing Students proud of themselves because of how beautiful their projects have turned out all because of the Quiltworx process and sewing technique.

misty mountain getaway Wendy Nutt

Wendy is an enthusiastic teacher and enjoys seeing her students benefit from their successes. She brings to her workshops a vast knowledge of designing, pattern construction and assembly techniques. Her extensive career has included teaching at TAFE and community colleges throughout NSW and Victoria in all things fashion.

Wendy has exhibited overseas and is a recipient of many quilting awards, including two Contemporary Art Quilt awards and first place in Quilt NSW’s Suitcase Challenge 2016.

misty mountain getaway Meredith Budd

Meredith Budd of Dragon Quilt Services has been quilting, designing and teaching since 2008. She runs a long-arm quilting business and has designed many projects for Australian Patchwork & Quilting and Quilter’s Companion magazines.

In 2018, she was Accredited as a Teacher of Special Techniques with Quilt NSW using the range of rulers and templates that she has developed. These tools were created to make patchworked blocks as simply and perfectly as possible.

The Everyday Expert Rulers help patch workers to make traditional blocks with perfect points, emphasising accuracy, simplicity, and usability. All patch workers can find value in these tools - from their first use, beginners to accomplished quilters can produce perfect blocks.

The accuracy of her rulers was vindicated in 2018. Her ‘Row, Row, Row’ Quilt won 1st place at the 2018 Darling Harbour Quilt Show for Professional Piecing. This complex quilt featured one hundred 6” blocks, with up to 32 pieces in each block.

Meredith’s workshops focused on technique. Students will be able to make perfect blocks and be able to repeat the method for any sized piece. Easy block setting is also a feature, with instruction on different layouts and finishing treatments. You will be inspired to create your own masterpiece that is uniquely you, using traditional blocks in a new way.
